What is all this talk about self love? Why is it important?
Wow! I cannot believe it has been over a month since the last time I wrote a blog. I am going to start writing at least once a week again.
What have I been doing over the past month? I have been learning and growing. Through the books I am reading/listening to, my coaching school, my coaching sessions with my clients and my coaching sessions with my coach I have been doing a whole lot of listening and observing. Everyone is talking about loving your self, nurturing your self, believing in your self. I have been taking it all in and while I started doing this for myself years ago, all of these conversations/lessons have opened my eyes even more to the reasons we need to cultivate these practices in our lives.
One reason we need to practice self love is because we cannot truly love someone else if we cannot love our self.
Another reason to practice self love is because if we do not love our self, we are less likely to do nice things for our self - such as taking care of our bodies, minds, souls, health.
And yet another reason to practice self love is because if we do not love our self, we teach other people to not love us.
It is not selfish, conceited or self-centered to love you.
If you are not already in love with your self - and I do mean IN LOVE - the first step is to dig deep and ask yourself WHY NOT?
Here is an exercise to help you dig deep.
1. What is it that you see, feel, hear, think, about your self, that is so bad that you cannot love you?
2. What does this mean to you?
3. Is this something that you would like to change? If yes, answer the next question. If no, go back to the first question (keep going back until you have exhausted your reasons for not loving your self).
4. What would it mean if you change this?
5. What would be different in your life if you changed this?
6. What would it take to change this?
7. Do you know the first step you need to take?
8. What is stopping you?
For some, they do not know what the first step is, where to start. For others, they may need support or accountability. It is normal to need and ask for help. Sometimes we do not want to ask for help because we do not want others to see us as weak, weird, needy, etc but the reality is, we ALL need help.
While I did not have another physical person helping me through my own journey, I listened to a lot of speakers on the subject and read a lot of books to get me to where I am today and it was a very long road. Now, I am working diligently to help others take the shorter road to the same place because there were times I wanted to throw in the towel and just give up and I do not want that for you.
If you need help, please reach out. You can send me a private message to firstname.lastname@example.org or you can message me on facebook (mindsoulbodyfit). I am in the process of setting up a private facebook group where people like us can get together and support each other through this journey and will post that here as soon as it is up and running.
